There was a certain feeble-minded Assyrian, and they asked him “Can Mar Shimoun [the Nestorian patriarch] marry?” He says to them “No, it is forbidden for Mar Shimoun, I mean, it is not allowed, it is a sin for him to marry!” So they asked him once more, saying to him “All right, can his son marry?” He says “Yes, his son may marry.” [They asked] “What about his daughter?” He says “Also his daughter may marry.” They say to him, asked him “You moron! If he’s unmarried, how can he have a son?
